WATER SAVING TIPS AND REMINDERS

Most of our community water usage goes into irrigation & outside water use. Please conserve water you use in and around your home from our shared community well.

Recommendations:
• In spring, turn on all irrigation systems (sprinklers, drip) and inspect for leaks, adjust as necessary.
• Water in early morning to reduce evaporation and improve plant health.
• Fix leaks as soon as they are identified.
• Do not allow water to run into streets. BTMWC has a zero waste water policy.

Irrigation:
• Consider replacing thirsty lawns with drought tolerant and/or native plants.
• Irrigate plants according to plant types and outdoor temperatures. Established trees and shrubs only need deep watering twice per year. Mature trees have deep root systems and do not require much water.
• Limit summer watering and adjust timers according to weather patterns.
• Spring and Fall – reduce outdoor irrigation and turn off irrigation during rains.
• Mulching soil with compost or wood chips and other amendments can help retain moisture and reduce weeds. Cardboard or newspaper placed under the mulch can further reduce evaporation and weeds.

Leaks:
The average household leaks waste nearly 10,000 gallons of water per year.

Toilets are the most common source of residential leaks. Listen for ‘singing’ water sound and replace rubber flapper in toilet tank.

Swimming pools should have covers to reduce evaporation by up to 25%.
